All around the world, something is happening to women when they fall asleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed, the women become feral and spectacularly violent…

In the small town of Dooling, West Virginia, the virus is spreading through a women’s prison, affecting all the inmates except one. Soon, word spreads about the mysterious Evie, who seems able to sleep – and wake. Is she a medical anomaly or a demon to be slain?

The abandoned men, left to their increasingly primal devices, are fighting each other, while Dooling’s Sheriff, Lila Norcross, is just fighting to stay awake.

And the sleeping women are about to open their eyes to a new world altogether…

Weiterlesen „Stephen & Owen King: Sleeping Beauties“

Kate Harding: Asking For It

Originaltitel: Asking for It – The Alarming Rise of Rape Culture – and What We Can Do About It

Autor: Kate Harding

Verlag: Life Long Books

Genre: Sachbuch, Englisch

Seitenzahl: 222 + Anhang

Erscheinungsjahr: 2015

ISBN: 978-0-7382-1702-4

Klappentext:

Every seven minutes, someone in America commits a rape. And whether that’s a football star, beloved celebrity, elected official member of the clergy, or just an average Joe (or Joanna), there’s probably a community eager to make excuses for that person.

In Asking for It, Kate Harding combines in-depth research with an in-your-face voice to make the case that twenty-first-century America supports rapists more effectively than victims. Drawing on real-world examples of what feminists all „rape culture“ – from politicos‘ revealing gaffes to instituional failures in higher education and the military – Harding offers ideas and suggestions for how we, as a society, can take sexual violence much more seriously without compromising the rights of the accused.

Weiterlesen „Kate Harding: Asking For It“

Klappentext:

Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. Bu as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote … and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Weiterlesen „Stephen King: The Shining“
